Well if you want to join the militart again why not... in 12 years you could take the bar and practice law. Or take the Bar and see how it goes. If you do well have the right job options and were not offered a commision then be a lawyer then after you have been practicing perhaps you can try again to receive a commision. You spent a lot of money to go to law school, and I'm sure a lot of time too... so why not use the degree in some capacity.

It took me a few attempts to get into the JAG Corps and ultimately I had to go through the Reserves and mobilize to get selected.

AGR, Active Guard Reserve, is another option. There aren't a lot of CPT slots in the AGR but if you joined the Reserves (where the selection rate is nearly 90%), you could volunteer to mobilize and do a variety of TTADs (temporary tours of active duty), mobilizations and deployments until you got picked up for either active duty or AGR. With the current OPTEMPO, you could stay mobilized for five years without anybody noticing.

You can join the Judge Advocate General's Corps, they are a group of Army officers who are also Lawyers. They provide legal services to the Army at all levels.

(Thats as far as I know from random humanities class - the teacher rambles sometimes -Plus he refers to America as "The evil empire" )
